Strataca
Strataca is a unique underground salt museum located 650 feet below the surface in Hutchinson, Kansas. It is the only salt mine museum in the Western Hemisphere that allows tourists to descend into a working salt deposit. This popular attraction gives visitors a chance to see massive ancient salt formations dating back 275 million years, explore historic mining tunnels, and see underground storage vaults used to protect Hollywood film reels and historical archives. The hoist can hold over 100k pounds, so it can easily accommodate power wheelchair users. The hoist takes 90 seconds and is dark, but they do allow flashlights to make it more comfortable during the descend and ascend. The mine stays around 68 degrees all year round, making it a comfortable temperature for all.
