Cabrillo Marine Aquarium (CMA) is located in San Pedro, CA and was founded in 1935. Since that time, CMA has provided visitors with a natural and interactive approach to learning about the marine environment of Southern California. The Frank Gehry-designed aquarium is a public facility and is operated by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks. It is set within the Cabrillo Coastal Park, a community park located at Cabrillo Beach in the Port of Los Angeles. CMA is the only fee-free and non-profit aquarium that is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in the United States. In addition to free admissions, all education programs are low or no cost. CMA, displays a large collection of Southern California marine life and has developed many programs utilizing the park to teach about coastal ecosystems including local tidepools, rocky shores, kelp forests, beaches, fishing pier, and a salt marsh. Our award-winning programs have become an essential resource and key component of science education for schools across the greater Los Angeles area.
